RG® Resistance Graded Glaze

Identified by their classic orange caps, Lapp’s RG station posts have been in service for over 50 years. RG® posts can help eliminate the need for insulator washing and prevent insulator flashovers in areas rich with coastal salt fog/mist, industrial pollution, and agricultural dust or other chemicals.

Cap and Pin Replacement Insulators

The LAPP Cap and Pin Replacement station post offers electric utilities a direct replacement for cap and pin insulators, featuring all the characteristics required for reliable substation operation. Long-term experience with both the station post and cap and pin insulator has shown that there are generic design deficiencies of the cap and pin that can almost certainly lead to insulator failure in service. The primary deficiency is a result of the increased number of cement joints required for cap and pin production, this leads to thermal expansion issues. Cap and pin replacement posts are available with standard, pedestal, and stackable base configurations.

Transmission line posts

LAPP Insulators designed and produced the industry’s first line post insulator in 1931, using the early fog type design as foundation to build upon. For more than 80 years, LAPP has continued to set the industry standard, leading in the design, production, assembly, material and testing of line post insulators. Through research and development, LAPP offers new engineered solutions for Compact Line Construction using LAPP horizontal line posts. These insulators can be produced utilizing Lapp’s Resistive Graded RG® glaze for use in contaminated environments.

Porcelain Struts

LAPP Strut Insulators offer transmission engineers an important design tool for use in building compact overhead lines or upgrading existing lines to higher voltages. Unlike suspension insulators that are designed for tension only, struts are rigid assemblies which can take both tension and compression loads. Struts are not designed for cantilever loading. They can be used to hold conductors away from supporting transmission towers in unique ways. Controlling the position of the conductor allows for smaller structures and shorter cross arms, so lines can be built on narrower rights-of-way.These insulators can be produced utilizing Lapp’s Resistance Graded RG® glaze for use in contaminated environments.

Here in the US, utilities have historically favored suspension bell configurations for supporting transmission lines. In the rest of the world a different technology is favored, and that technology is the porcelain long rod insulator (PLRI). Lapp has extensive experience producing these insulators and they come with several benefits over traditional bell style suspension insulators. Horizontal Vee Assemblies

LAPP Insulators is a global leader in advanced compact line insulation designs and production, which allow electric utilities and transmission operators to cut construction costs, reduce right-of-way, minimize maintenance and assure maximum operating reliability. The compact, armless Horizontal Vee assembly controls conductor position, supporting the conductor on tension loaded suspension insulators, and restrains it in position with a strut insulator. LAPP Insulators offers Horizontal Vee assemblies that meet the requirements for most 115 kV through 500 kV applications. The flexibility of designs allows for modifications to fit special application requirements using similar basic components.
